RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

At the Church of Christ the King, we believe that parents have the greatest influence on their child’s faith development.  Children receive their faith from their parents in much the same way that they receive their language, their loyalties, their preferences, their talents and their habits.
 
We believe that our Catholic Faith and Tradition will best be learned and passed on by participation at weekly Mass.  We view our family faith formation programs as a supplement to regular Mass attendance and faith sharing within the family. We also view our parents as life-long learners of the faith since we are all called to life-long discipleship.


FAMILY BASED FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM 
Since we view parents as having the primary role in a child’s faith formation, our primary program is family centered and include family, parent, and child based teaching. We look to give parents supplemental tools with which to pass on the Catholic Faith to their children.  Our Family Based Religious Education process (FBRE) is a program for Grades 1 through 4. We gather once a month on Thursday afternoon or Friday evening from September through April and we conclude the annual process with a Family Gathering in May.

JUNIOR HIGH FAITH FORMATION 
Children in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade have the opportunity to attend a Sunday evening faith formation program, meeting approximately twice a month. This program begins at 4:30pm and concludes with our 5:30pm Mass. This program allows for fostering a peer community and prepares this age group for the CTK Youth Ministry Program. In keeping with our belief that faith is best passed by and within the family, five of our sessions involve parents and children together. We gather October through April and we conclude the annual process with a Family Gathering in May.

OPTIONAL MONTHLY KINDERGARTEN FAITH FORMATION
Families whose oldest child(ren) is in Kindergarten have the opportunity to attend an optional monthly faith formation program to learn some of the basics of our faith before formal Religious Education begins in 1st Grade. This program involves parents and takes place on Sunday morning at 10:00am, after the 9:00am Mass and prior to the 11:00am Mass in the Parish Life Center library.
